Crochet & Ove
I’ve been down with a cold for the past couple of weeks. Well, I’m ok now, but the cough and congestion are hanging on. Unfortunate since I only just got over COVID. Another week and a half of sleepless nights and wasted days. But not totally wasted because I caught up on movies I had been meaning to watch and hobbies I had neglected.
I crocheted a vest
I started this vest some months ago when it was actually cool enough to wear it. It’s summer now. That’s how long it took me to finally get it done. I had to redo a bit of it, but it ended up coming out not too bad. I decided to add a pop of blue to the border and the bow tie just to add something different and make it look a little less “grandma”. Will be great to wear once it cools down. I have no interest in wearing it in this tropical heat. But if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere and would love a crochet vest pattern recommendation for your winter, I’ll link the one I used below. It’s an actual pattern from the 70s. I found it easy to follow, and you won’t need more than two skeins of yarn.
Big Scary
The other day I noticed my iPad was playing songs from my downloaded list from my Apple Music. I never listen to that music anymore, just whatever’s on my music streaming app. But I was curious about what music I had forgotten about. I came across Big Scary, an Australian band based in Melbourne, that I used to listen to years ago. I did some catching up on their newer albums, and they’ve become a band I actively listen to again. I’m not sure why they’re not as popular as Boy & Bear and Angus & Julia Stone, but they’re also a duo who are very talented and in the indie and alternative genres. Here are a few of their songs I recommend:
A Man Called Ove
I started reading A Man Called Ove, which has been on both my digital and physical TBR pile. I had just finished reading Bel Canto by Ann Patchet (which I highly recommend), but it left me needing something easy and light-hearted to read. When it comes to choosing a new book to read, I always have the urge to go out and buy a new book even when I have plenty I haven’t read on my bookshelf. But decided, since I was sick and not leaving the house any time soon, I might as well tackle some books on my shelf. The only other book by Fredrik Backman that I’ve read is Anxious People, which touched on tough subjects but kept it light and comedic. Ove is similar. And then I read that Tom Hanks is starring in the film adaptation, which I believe is coming out in the next week or so with the title A Man Called Otto. So maybe squeeze this light read in before watching the movie.

HOW THE 4X4X4 METHOD GOT ME BACK INTO JOURNALING REGULARLY
If you’re reading this, you probably have some interest in journaling. Maybe you tried it at one point but then found it hard to stick to a routine, or maybe you’re consistently trying to keep a journaling routine but oftentimes lose the motivation to keep it up. It’s knowing that journaling is good for you but once you get out of the habit, you have trouble getting back into it. Sounds a bit like exercise. Haven’t done that in a while, but that’s not what we’re talking about right now.
